Earlier this summer, there was an article in the Star about the metropolitan area not meeting air quality guidelines. Here are two easy ways to not contribute to air pollution: 1) Instead of using lighter fluid to start up your grill, use a coals chimney. These are available at any hardware or big box store, easy to use, fast and efficient with no noxious fumes. 2) Instead of using dryer sheets, use rubber balls to fluff clothing in the dryer and cut drying time. You can purchase rubber balls with nubs on them made especially for this purpose on line or just use a couple of clean tennis balls. Just this week there was another article in the Star about problems related to landfill use and trash pickup that said that 80% of the trash collected in Johnson County could be recycled. If you don't already have a recycling bin, just come by City Hall to pick one up. For information on what you are allowed to recycle with Town & Country, click here. Often we are recycling some things but not everything that our recycler actually collects, such as all kinds of paper and also chipboard such as cereal boxes. These should be bundled together with newspaper, no need to bundle each separately. |
