Councilmember Bill Art

Ward 4 - Term Expires April 2009

Bill Art was elected in March 2005 to the Roeland Park City Council.  Bill is a bilingual Spanish speaking Master Level Clinical Social Worker at Johnson County Mental Health.  Bill serves on the Crisis Intake Team at Mental Health Center's Olathe office.  He answers the After Hours Crisis line for the six county area of Kansas.  Mr. Art is chair of the Suicide Prevention Subcommittee on the Governor's Mental Health Services Planning Council.  He trains professionals on the warning signs of suicide and how to prevent suicide.  Bill serves on the Cultural Diversity committee for the mental health center.

Community Involvement   

  • Bill is a return Peace Corp Volunteer who served in Paraguay, South America from 1985-1988 doing community development projects.  One such project included the building of a primary school for grades 1 through 6.  Other projects were in the area of Apiculture, Forestry, and Agriculture.  
  • Mr. Art assisted in starting a shelter for homeless people in Kansas City, Missouri in 1984.  ReStart, Inc continues to operate as a major shelter for the area's homeless.
