Compost Bin Rebate PRogram

The City of Roeland Park is committed to helping residents divert organic materials from landfills and is offering a rebate to residents to begin a home composting program. Eligible residents can get a rebate of up to $75 for the purchase of a home compost bin or by building one.

COmpost Workshops

The City along with the Johnson County K-State Research and Extension Office will host workshops for those wanting to learn more about backyard composting. Those who attend a workshop will be prioritized for a rebate and be eligible for the maximum rebate of $75. Those who do not attend a workshop may receive a rebate of up to $40, subject to availability.

Compost workshops will be held at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Drive, in the Neighbor's Place Room on the following dates:

  • Saturday, April 27th at 10 a.m.
  • Wednesday, May 15th at 6 p.m.

Neighbors Helping NEighbors

This program provides assistance to qualified Roeland Park resident homeowners for exterior home improvements using volunteers and contract labor. Those who meet income guidelines can get assistance with a variety of exterior home repairs such as: 

  • repair or replacement of damaged shutters, wood-siding shingles, and guttering;
  • improvements, modification and installation of aids for disabled persons such as ramps and handrails;
  • exterior painting, minor repair of windows, storm doors and garage doors; and more

Those with active property code violations will receive priority for this program which is funded at $10,000 in 2019.

Property Tax Assistance Program

Northeast Johnson County has seen some of the highest residential property value increases in the County. To help assist low-income residents with the additional tax burden, the City is offering a rebate to those who qualify of the City portion of property taxes. The 2019 Budget provides for up to $15,000 in rebates to eligible homeowners. Additional details of this program will be available soon.
