On Saturday May 29, 2021, Roeland Park hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Roeland Park Aquatic Center. Over 100 patrons visited the Aquatic Center on its opening day. Council President Jan Faidley cut the ribbon with Mayor Kelly, Johnson County Commissioner Fast, Park and Recreation Superintendent Tony Nichols, and member of the Roeland Park Aquatic Center Advisory Committee present.
Mayor Kelly commented to 41 KSHB Kansas City that "[i]t's nice to be able to open this up after the year we had as things to start open back up a little more this year".

The Roeland Park Aquatic Center is open with limited days and hours due to the shortage of lifeguard staff. As more lifeguards are hired, the Roeland Park Aquatic Center hopes to expand the number of days they are open.

If you'd like to be a lifeguard, please apply on the website. Applicants must be at least 15 years old and a strong swimmer. All training will be provided.
